"NYC's Mission: Improv-able is high flying-death defying comedy without a net!"
General Workshop
NYC’s Mission Improv‑able’s General Improv Workshop meets weekly and brings together participants at a wide range of experience levels—from curious beginners to seasoned improvisers. Our community is made up of people from diverse backgrounds; participants are not limited to professional performers or actors. What unites them is a shared interest in creativity, play, and personal growth.
Our training centers on rediscovering the natural ability to play—a skill we believe everyone possesses. Through improvisation, participants reconnect with spontaneity, imagination, and presence while developing practical skills that translate both on and off the stage. These include confidence, collaboration, active listening, adaptability, and clear communication.
We draw from multiple respected approaches to improvisation and performance, incorporating techniques influenced by Michael Chekhov, Keith Johnstone, and Cohen‑based methodologies, among others. By blending these methods, our workshops support both artistic exploration and structured skill development.
As participants progress, we focus on applying these tools to everyday life and dynamic, joyful performance. Whether the goal is personal enrichment, professional development, or mastery of improv as an art form, our General Workshop is designed to support growth at every stage. In short, we welcome everyday people and aspiring performers alike—and guide them from first‑time exploration through advanced improvisational practice in a supportive, inclusive environment.
